Here’s no surprise — we’re running late in both the 3A and 2A state volleyball tournaments at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.
The semifinals were scheduled for 2 p.m., but only one is actually in progress. Fife shocked Archbishop Murphy in the opening set of that 2A semifinal, 25-14, but the Wildcats have battled back to even the match at 1-1
Bishop Blanchet and Mount Si are just starting to warm up for their 3A showdown, which should be especially interesting since Blanchet star Summer Nash played at Mount Si as a freshman and sophomore. She transferred to Blanchet last year and was ineligible for varsity play.
Prairie and Mount Spokane should get started here shortly.
In 3A consolation matches, Everett and Lakes are assured of trophies. They play for fifth and eighth places at 5 p.m. (or whenever the court becomes available). Everett eliminated Timberline, which had earlier sent Holy Names home. Lakes came from behind to knock out Auburn Mountainview, a team they had lost to twice during the regular season (but beaten at the bi-district tourney last weekend).
The other 3A consolation matches follow the semifinals.
I’ll have more throughout the afternoon and evening.
