Prediction time: Girls state soccer, semifinal edition

CLASS 4A

Issaquah v. Kamiakin — Anyone would be hard-pressed to pick against the Eagles right now. They have scored three goals or more in each game for more than a month. Read that sentence again, then reconsider the strength of the KingCo 4A League and the state tournament, and let that soak in. I’ll take Issy 3-1.

Skyline v. Kentwood — This should be a high-quality match. I’ve seen both these teams play in the playoffs and both really knock the ball around well. The Spartans have scored just one goal in five of their last six games, but I’m giving the defending champs the edge since they have done it before and the Conks have never made the semis. Skyline wins 1-0.

CLASS 3A

Columbia River v. West Valley (Yakima) — Here are two teams that I haven’t seen since they are out of our coverage area. Both have certainly been tested throughout the year. Columbia River finished third in an ultra-competitive GSHL 3A League and the Rams played a handful of 4A teams throughout the year. West Valley 2-1.

Camas v. Mercer Island — The Papermakers, like their league rivals in the other half of the bracket, have been extremely impressive so far in the playoffs, outscoring opponents 11-0 in three loser-out games. Conversely, each of the Islanders’ last eight games have been decided by two goals or less. I’m siding with Camas 2-0.
