I just got off the phone with Seattle School District Athletic Director Al Hairston.
Hairston said that all seven Metro League schools in the Sound Division (Chief Sealth, Cleveland, Franklin, Ingraham, Nathan Hale, Rainier Beach, West Seattle) will compete at the Class 3A level in the next two-year cycle beginning in 2010.
Most of the Mountain Division schools, however, are expected to make their own decisions as to where they will play next year. All those decisions will be known within a week or two, and we will provide updates as we gather that information.
A release from the WIAA earlier this month indicates that Holy Names Academy and Bainbridge will each compete at their enrollment levels as 3A schools.
That leaves Lakeside, Eastside Catholic, Seattle Prep, Bishop Blanchet and O’Dea as the remaining schools.
Tomorrow (Dec. 15) is the date that the percentage lines for reclassification will be finalized. It is also a deadline for schools to decide whether they will opt up, so new information will become available in the next couple days.
It was previously thought that all 14 Metro schools will play at the 3A level.
