Lake Stevens suspends three wrestlers

The Lake Stevens wrestling program took a hit recently.

Three wrestlers have been at least temporarily suspended for violating some aspect of the Lake Stevens High School athletic code.

“It’s an ongoing process, and I can’t say anything more,” said Lake Stevens athletic director Ed Bailey today via phone. “Students and parents deserve some privacy and respect.”

The incidents are believed to have occurred sometime during the second week in January, since all three wrestlers did not participate in the Matman Classic in Silverdale or the Dream Duals in Spokane.

Vying for their fourth straight state title, the Vikings are less than two weeks away from their league competition. They figure to take another depleted squad into their next match, which is Thursday night against visiting Oak Harbor.

Calls to Lake Stevens coach Brent Barnes have yet to be returned.
