High-school girls basketball rankings — Week 10

Another week, another series of upsets.

This time, it was Issaquah taking the tumble — twice. The Eagles had soared to No. 4 last week, then lost not only to Woodinville, but Garfield. But they’re still in the top-10 at No. 9.

Could it be Garfield is starting to play like the team that folks expected at the start of the season, when the Bulldogs were rated fifth? It’s definitely the right time of the season to get hot.

Bellarmine Prep had a seven-game win streak snapped by Mount Tahoma and falls from No. 5 to No. 10. Mount Tahoma might have gotten the nod, but recently lost to Stadium.

So, there are no new teams in the 4A rankings this week, just some major rearranging.

The bottom half of the 3A rankings continue to be a challenge. Shadle Park and Seattle Prep each lost twice, while Shorecrest and West Valley of Yakima each dropped one game. Prep’s loss to top-ranked Holy Names didn’t disturb me as much as the one against Bishop Blanchet, so it’s back to the “watch” list for Prep.

Shadle and West Valley each lost to 4A teams and Shorecrest followed a hiccup against Lynwood with an impressive win over 4A Jackson, so neither loses ground. In the search for a new team to put at No. 10, Bonney Lake (13-4) got a good look along with Mount Rainier (14-2), but Capital — which has won six straight — gets the nod.

Here’s what I came up with:

Class 4A

1. Auburn Riverside (18-0)

2. Federal Way (15-3)

3, Chiawana (Pasco) (16-1)

4, Newport (Bellevue) (15-1)

5, Woodinville (15-1)

6, Kentwood (Covington) (14-4)

7, Edmonds-Wooddway (15-1)

8, Mead (Spokane) 13-3

9, Issaquah (13-3)

10, Bellarmine Prep (Tacoma) (12-6)

Others to watch (alphabetically) — Bethel (Graham), Central Valley (Spokane), Eastlake, Evergreen (Vancouver), Garfield, Gonzaga-Prep (Spokane), Jackson (Mill Creek), Kelso, Lewis and Clark (Spokane), Marysville-Pilchuck, Monroe, Mount Tahoma (Tacoma), Olympia, Richland, Skyview (Vancouver), South Kitsap (Port Orchard).

Class 3A

1. Holy Names (15-2)

2. Kennedy Catholic (14-3)

3, Prairie (Brush Prairie) (12-4)

4, Mercer Island (13-3)

5, White River (Buckley) (15-2)

6, Shadle Park (Spokane) (9-7)

7, Shorecrest (Shoreline) (11-5)

8, West Valley (Yakima) (12-4)

9, Port Angeles (13-2)

10, Capital (Olympia) (12-4)

Others to watch (alphabetically) — Auburn Mountainview, Bonney Lake, Glacier Peak (Snohomish), Lakes (Lakewood), Lynnwood, Meadowdale (Lynwood), Mount Rainier (Des Moines), North Central (Spokane), Seattle Prep, Sumner, Yelm.
