SPSL approves 2A league including Nisqually merger

The SPSL 3A principals today approved the establishment of a SPSL 2A league this fall that includes a merger with the four current Nisqually League 2A schools.

The Nisqually League principals must also approve the merger.

The proposed SPSL 2A would encompass Clover Park, Franklin Pierce, Sumner and White River, who will be dropping from SPSL 3A next fall, along with Eatonville, Fife, Steilacoom and Washington.

The SPSL 3A principals also accepted the SPSL athletic directors’ recommendation not to accept Kennedy into the league. That will leave SPSL 3A with only six schools — Auburn Mountainview, Bonney Lake, Decatur (dropping from 4A) Enumclaw, Lakes and Peninsula.

Scott Nordi, Clover Park AD and chairman of the SPSL 3A ADs, said the 2A schools would help the 3As fill schedules when possible. He also said that the leagues will have joint leadership for the first year for a variety of purposes, but will be separate 3A and 2A leagues (not a SPSL 3A/3A combo).
