The Federal Way boys basketball team, ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 22 in the nation, had its struggles against No. 2 Curtis of University Place Thursday in the championship game of the SPSL 4A tournament.
But the Eagles played well enough to win, 59-52, and the game wasn’t as cose as that score indicates as Dominique Williams drained a long three-pointer at the buzzer (and another at the end of the third quarter). Federal Way was up 50-35 midway through the fourth quarter.
Cole Dickerson scored 8 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter and Tyrell Lewis added 12 for the Eagles (20-1), the defending state champs whose only loss was to Jefferson of Portland.
Curtis (19-2) was without two starters, both of whom could return Friday. Wiliams led the Vikings with 21 points, while Davonte Lacy added 14.
