Saturday’s high-school highlights

Here’s a look back at Saturday high-school action:

KENT — Watch out for Kentwood and Joshua Smith.

The unranked Conquerors controlled third-ranked Curtis from the start in a 65-51 SPSL 4A boys basketball tournament victory Saturday night at the ShoWare Center.

The 6-foot-9 Smith, a UCLA signee, had 22 points to continue his string of productive games since returning from an injury.

Jason Boyce added 18 points for Kentwood (13-9), which claimed the SPSL’s No. 2 seed to the West Central 4A bi-district tournament. The Conks have won seven of their past eight games. Curtis settled for SPSL’s No. 3 seed.

Davonte Lacy scored 23 points for the Vikings (19-3), the SPSL South champions who were coming off a 59-52 loss to top-ranked Federal Way on Thursday.

Kentwood and Curtis will host first-round bi-district tournament games Wednesday.
