U-Hi clinches 4A wrestling title; 3A still a race

It’s over.

University of Spokane used its wealth of “back door” wrestlers to nail down the 4A state wrestling title before the individual championship matches even start.

The Titans, who won their only other title in 2005, have 146.5 points to Tahoma’s 100.5. Even if Tahoma’s four finalists win by pin (worth 6 each), and U-Hi’s two in the finals lose, the Bears can’t catch up.

But there is still a race for the third- and fourth-place trophies between Lake Stevens (84.5), Auburn (83) and Moses Lake (82).

The 3A tournament title is still up for grabs. Enumclaw narrowed the gap with Yelm, but still trails 144-138.5. Both have three in the finals.

You can read more on the web later tonight and in Sunday’s newspaper.
