FINAL high-school girls basketball rankings

What a wild week of girls basketball!

With “upset” losses by several teams — including Woodinville (former No. 2) and Edmonds-Woodway (former No. 4) in Class 4A and Prairie (former No. 3) in 3A, I was left scratching my head when it came time to compile these final rankings.

I didn’t want to finish with three SPSL North teams atop 4A, but that’s what I ended up doing. I left E-W in the top-10 at No. 9, and dropped out Issaquah, but with only one new spot available, I went with Lake Stevens, even though it was Marysville-Pilchuck with the upset over the Warriors. E-W is rewarded for its overall season and M-P is like No. 11.

Lake Stevens has won seven in a row and is 16-1 after a 1-4 start, so the Vikings are playing well when it counts.

Who would have thought we’d see Woodinville and Issaquah playing a loser-out game in the KingCo tournament? Obviously, not me.

Mead of Spokane is back in the top-10 after winning the Greater Spokane League tourney over Lewis and Clark. Central Valley is the other qualifier to the Eastern Regional.

In 3A, Prairie’s loss to Camas was a bit of shocker. The Falcons, who had been getting by without their usual abundance of talent, had won 136 consecutive games over Clark County teams dating back to January of 2000. Prairie faces a long road to earn its traditional state berth.

I’m rewarding Camas with the No. 10 spot — still behind Prairie, which has a far superior record.

It should be another fun week of playoffs, then comes the 4A state tournament followed by 3A state, so there will still be plenty to read about here over the next three weeks

But these rankings will stand:

Class 4A
