All three All-State girls basketball games Saturday at Seattle Christian were high-scoring affairs. Here are some highlights:
Newport’s Betsy Kingma scored 16 points to help the Class 4A/3A “Blue” team defeat the 4A/3A “White” squad, 89-84. She had 12 in the second half, including a pair of three-pointers. Tosha Hollingsworth (Capital) led all scorers with 17 points. Kassia Fortier (Skyline) added 12 points for the Blues, while Jessica Denmon (Oak Harbor) added 11. Mercedes Wetmore (Auburn Riverside) had eight.
Marcel Pounds (Bonney Lake) was one of five players on the White team in double figures with 14. She was followed by Morganne Comstock (Kentlake) and Kobe Jenkins (Cleveland) with 11 each and Hannah Lilly (Mercer Island) and Nichole Jones (Rogers-Puyallup) with 10 each. Whitney Wilson (Cleveland) and Stephanie Smolinski (Auburn Mountainview) tallied eight apiece.
In the 1A/2A game, it was the Whites over the Blues, 89-83. Megan McIntyre (Freeman) paced with winners with 14 points. Annie Martinez (East Valley-Yakima) scored a game-high 15 for the Blues.
The Blues took the 1B/2B game, 85-81, as Melanie Laete (Evergreen Lutheran) pumped in 17 points. Shelby Barnes (Asotin) piled up 19 for the Whites.
