Auburn Mountainview picks former UW assistant as head coach

Craig Spence, an assistant football coach at the University of Washington the past two seasons, is the new head coach at Auburn Mountainview.

Spence has had a few other college stops but also spent two seasons as head coach at Charles Wright Academy in Tacoma prior to joining Tyrone Willingham’s staff for the 2008 season. He stayed on with Steve Sarkisian last year and currently teaches at Life Christian Academy in Tacoma.

“He’s just a very bright, energy-packed person,” Auburn Mountainview athletic director Murray Johnson said. “We are unbelievably excited about the potential he has for taking our football program and really developing the potential of our kids.”

Spence played football at Stanford under Bill Walsh. He and his wife, Amy, live in Auburn and have a 16-month-old daughter. Amy Spence works for the Auburn School District in the administrative office.
