Union (#1 3A) edges Kelso (#1 4A) in softball thriller

I just got an e-mail from Union coach Alex Perry about Wednesday’s showdown between his top-ranked 3A team and Kelso, the defending 4A state champion currently ranked No. 1.

Here’s what he said:

“We beat Kelso last night 3-2. It was a great game. We scored one in the first. They came back with one in the third and fourth for a 2-1 lead. We had a two run double by Alexis Cline in the fifth for the win. Our pitcher Mariah Dawson struck out 17. We had 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 errors, Kelso had 2 runs on 5 hits and no errors. It really fit the billing as a great game.”

So, here’s a question for you — should Kelso drop in the 4A rankings???

A couple of other ranked teams that fell this week: Stadium lost to Wilson and Bonney Lake lost to Peninsula. That will put Wilson in the 4A rankings. Not sure if Stadium will stay in. Bonney Lake will definitely drop, but Peninsula is just 5-6, so probably won’t make the top-10 just yet.
