High-school boys soccer rankings — Week 4

There are mounting problems with these state soccer rankings.

The culprit: Too many teams that start with the word Mount.

Mount Si has gotten lost in the shuffle this spring as I inexplicably left the Wildcats out of the Class 3A state rankings despite notes in my own writing that suggest otherwise.

Blame it on Mount Vernon and Mount Rainier. They all start blending together after a while.

Mount Si appears to be the real deal, even with the Wildcats’ first loss last week to Juanita, 2-1, so they are now represented in the rankings as they probably should have been in previous weeks. I’ve put them in at No. 7.

The top five teams in the 3A rankings didn’t budge with top-ranked Shorecrest looking as strong as ever at 10-0-0. No. 2 Camas gave up an own goal in a 2-1 victory over Columbia River.

Mount Rainier beat Kennedy Catholic, 1-0, last week to remain one of six 3A teams with no losses.

Mount Vernon dropped from the ranks of the unbeaten after losing to Class 2A Bellingham, 3-1.

Mercer Island has won four in a row and has climbed back into the 3A Top 10.

Stadium is the only undefeated team remaining in 4A.

The Tigers handed Bellarmine its first loss, 1-0, last week, then the Lions wound up dropping another, 2-1, to Wilson.

After a brief appearance in the rankings, Wenatchee slipped out after losing twice last week. Both losses came to quality opponents from Yakima (Davis and West Valley).

The best team in the Columbia Basin Big Nine League is anyone’s guess with a half dozen teams vying for the league championship: Walla Walla, Davis, Southridge, Wenatchee, Kennewick and perennial power Pasco.

Here are The Seattle Times 4A and 3A state rankings this week:
