High-school softball rankings — Week 4

Here’s an early look at this week’s state softball rankings. I’ve got some other assignments I need to work on this afternoon, so I took care of the rankings first thing.

It wasn’t easy.

Class 4A is a bit of a mess as Kelso, Mead, Stadium, Stanwood, University of Spokane and Southridge all lost. Kelso doesn’t get dinged much for losing a close one to Union, the top-ranked 3A team in the state. I debated about keeping the Hilanders at No. 1, but decided Walla Walla deserved the nod, so just swapped the two.

Mead lost to U-High, which then lost to Mount Spokane. So Mead stays in at No. 7, but University falls to No. 10. Rogers of Puyallup and Tahoma vault to 4-5, respectively. Unbeaten Jackson jumps in at No. 6. Wilson, which knocked off Stadium last week, takes the No. 8 spot and Kentlake (which has lost only to Tahoma) steps in at No. 9.

Kentlake and Tahoma square off again Tuesday night. That’s a big day of softball as Jackson takes on Mountlake Terrace as well.

In 3A, Bonney Lake drops to No. 8 after that upset loss to Peninsula last week. The Panthers have a big game Tuesday against Auburn Mountainview.

Everett lost an error-filled game to Arlington, but stays in at No. 9. Kennedy inches up to No. 7 after last week’s win over Mount Rainier, which falls out for now. Lynnwood gets the No. 10 spot for now.
