Beamer hires Winston Bell as boys basketball coach

Winston Bell, who played basketball at Washington State from 1988-90, is Beamer’s new head basketball coach.

Bell, who owns a counseling service and works within the Federal Way School District, has had a wide range of coaching experience, but this is his first gig as head coach at the high-school level. He coached the Federal Way Intensity AAU team that included Kevin Davis and five other players who went on to lead Beamer to its first state basketball berth in 2008-09.

“He has great knowledge of the game of basketball,” athletic director Jerry Peterson said. “We’re very excited. He’s the right fit for us.”

Bell said he is excited about the future of Beamer’s program.

“We have a lot of young kids that are really good athletes,” he said. “It’s time to wake up the city, get some new blood and get them excited about coming to Todd Beamer.”

Bell succeeds Brent Brilhante, who resigned after two seasons.
