Final — Gig Harbor 9, Tahoma 2
The Bears ran out of pitching, taking a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning and watching Gig Harbor rally with seven runs. The Tides’ Spencer Manjarrez had two huge at-bats in the seventh, stroking a solo home run and three-run triple.
Gig Harbor advances as the district’s No. 5 seed and plays Redmond in the Region II tournament at Kent Memorial Park next Saturday.
6:23 — Spencer Hobson came in in relief of Casper in the top of the fifth and gave up one run on two hits before settling down. A pair of diving catches in the outfield — one by Tyler Watkins in right and the other by Jordan Johanson in center — helped him get out of the inning. Tahoma leads 4-2.
6:00 — Jared Casper does it again. The Tahoma senior blasted a three-run homer — his 13th of the season — in the bottom of the third to break a 1-1 tie. The Bears now lead 4-1 heading into the fourth.
5:50 — Gig Harbor ties it 1-1 in the top of the third without the benefit of a hit. Tahoma pitcher Jared Casper walked the bases full and the run scored on a wild pitch.
5:35 — Justin Cloud hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second inning to give Tahoma a 1-0 lead over Gig Harbor in a loser-out, winner-to-state game of the West Central District 4A baseball tournament at Heidelberg Park.
