It was a slugfest, pure and simple.
Enumclaw beat West Seattle 13-8 in the second game of the Region I Class 3A baseball tournament at Skagit Valley Dream Field in Mount Vernon as the two teams combined for 32 hits.
The Hornets led 7-6 after two innings and 9-8 after five, then pulled away with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Enumclaw’s Marcus Madden, who pitched the first two innings then played centerfield, bashed a grand-slam home run in the second and went 4-for-4. Teammate Michael Luarelli roped a two-run shot in the third.
For West Seattle, Trevor Martin had a mammoth, 400-foot homer to lead off the fourth. He was 5-for-5 and finished a triple short of hitting for the cycle. He had a three-run double in the second.
Enumclaw now plays Mount Rainier at 4 p.m. for a berth in the Final Four. Enumclaw beat Mount Rainier 8-7 in 10 innings on May 10.
