Mount Rainier advances in Region I 3A baseball

The top-ranked Mount Rainier baseball team is a game closer to the Class 3A Final Four.

The Rams eliminated Meadowdale in the opening game of the Region I tournament at the Skagit Valley Dream Field in Mount Vernon, 11-1.

They advance to the regional final against the winner of West Seattle and Enumclaw, who just got started, at 4 p.m. West Seattle scored two in the top of the first and Enumclaw is now coming to bat.

Mount Rainier used three pitchers, who scattered five hits, and all three will be available for the next game. The Rams pounded 15 hits, including three each by Josh Potter, Taylor Goucher and Gio Bonifacio. Goucher’s two-run home run keyed a four-run first inning.
