Kelso (4A), Sedro-Woolley (3A) win state softball titles

Kelso succesfully defending its 4A state softball championship with a 2-1 victory over Heritage of Vancouver in eight innings Saturday night at SERA in Tacoma.

But Bainbridge, last year’s 3A champion, lost in the 3A final to Sedro-Woolley, 10-0.

Here are the scores of the final consolation games in 4A, which were limited to five innings (the winners all receive third-place trophies):

Rogers (Puyallup) 3, Stanwood 2

Jackson 8, Richland 5

Stadium 5, Marysville-Pilchck 2

Kamiakin 6, Puyallup 4

I’ve got writing duties now, so that’s it for tonight. The 3A consolation games are in progress you you can get those scores via twitter.

I just got the final score of that second 3A semifinal. Bainbridge won 7-5 to return to the championship game. The Spartans play Sedro-Woolley in about 15 minutes.

Everett gets one of the third-place trophies.

It’s an all-Greater St. Helen’s League championship game in Class 4A.

Kelso, the defending champion, beat Inglemoor in one semifinal, 3-1.

Heritage beat Walla Walla in the other, 1-0.

Kelso and Heritage play for the title in about 15 minutes.

Inglemoor and Walla Walla will be among the six teams receiving third-place trophies.

In 3A, Sedro-Woolley’s Bailey Brewer threw a no-hitter in a 3-0 victory over West Valley of Yakima to lead the Cubs into the championship game. She struck out 10.

Bainbridge leads Everett 6-2 in the fifth inning of the other 3A semifinal.

I finally got two of the 3A loser-out scores:

Bellevue 10, Enumclaw 6

Union 4, Mount Rainier 0

The other two loser-out games are running late.

Here are scores from the 4A loser-out games:

Rogers 3, Jefferson 2 (8 innings)

Richland 5, Kentlake 3

Stadium 11, University 0

Puyallup 5, Emerald Ridge 4

At 7:30, or a little later, since we are running a little behind, we will have these games (losers are out, winners tie for third place with the semifinal losers):

Rogers vs. Stanwood

Jackson vs. Richland

Stadium vs. Marsyville-Pilchuck

Kamiakin vs. Puyallup

I haven’t gotten any of the 3A loser-out scores yet.

The other 4A and 3A quarterfinal games are done.

In 4A:

Heritage 3, Jackson 0

Walla Walla 3, Stanwood 0

So Heritage and Walla Walla play in the other 6 p.m. semifinal. That’s the first loss of the season for Jackson, which will have one more game.

In 3A:

Bainbridge 10, Mount Spokane 0

Everett 8, Prairie 7 (8 innings)

Bainbridge meets Everett in a 6 p.m. semifinal.

The first two 4A quarterfinal games just got over:

Inglemoor and Kelso play in the semis at 6 p.m.

M-P led Kelso 3-0 before the defending champs scored five in the bottom of the sixth.

Here are the last of the 3A first-round scores:

In 3A, two first-round games are in the books:

Those two winners play in the quarterfinals at 3 p.m.

The other four 3A first-round games are just getting started.

Here are the first opening-round scores from 4A:

Ingelmoor 8, Jefferson 6

Marysville-Pilchuck 11, Richland 1

Kelso 4, Kentlake 3

Heritage (Vancouver) 13, University (Spokane) 2

Jackson 11, Stadium (Tacoma) 1

The other two 4A openers (Stanwood-Puyallup and Emerald Ridge-Walla Walla) are just underway, along with the first 3A games.

The 1 p.m. 4A quarterfinals are:

Kamiakin vs. Inglemoor

Marsville-Pilchuck vs. Kelso

And at 3 p.m, it’s Heritage vs. Jackson in another quarterfinal.

The first six games of the 4A state softball tournament at SERA in Tacoma are underway.

The first 3A games (and final two first-round 4A contests) are scheduled for 11:30.

I’ll be updating scores throughout the day both here and on twitter, so be sure to check back.

Both championship games are scheduled for 8 p.m.

It’s very cold, but dry at the moment. I’ve been told they’ve gone through 60 bags of Turfus thus far to get the fields ready, and that won’t be the last of it, I’m sure.
