Details pending for Ashley Aven memorial service

Like many of you, I was saddened to hear that Ashley Aven lost her courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia over the weekend.

I hope to have details later today (Monday) about the public memorial service and will post them as soon as possible. We also will publish them in the newspaper (hopefully Tuesday). I’ve been told the service might not happen until the middle of next week.

I also hope to speak with Ashley’s father, Bill Aven, in the next day or two. As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for the family and we want to respect that. Bill is a great guy and I’m sure he’ll make himself available soon to talk about the strength Ashley showed during this battle.

She was an inspiration to many.

Remember, Ashley was given less than two months to live back in early January. I wrote this story about her fight last spring.

The family announced Ashley’s death on the journal they have shared through Children’s Hospital’s CaringBridge website. Here is that link.
