Emerald City Volleyball Invitaional today at UW

It’s been all about football this past week, but I wanted to make sure volleyball fans are aware of what should be an enjoyable event today at Edmundson Pavilion.

The Emerald City Volleyball Invitational features seven teams playing in a round-robin format, one set each (so each team plays six sets on the day). Matches start at 1 p.m. and admission is free.

I think the coolest thing about this year’s event is the venue. In the past, it was been played at Eastlake High School. I’ve heard grumblings over the years how the Emerald City Football Classic gets a high-profile venue like Qwest Field, so why not something more on par for volleyball?

This seems a little more like it.

There should be some pretty exciting matches and we’ll have someone there to cover it. Two teams to keep an eye on are Mount Si and Camas. Both could be in the Class 3A state rankings when they are unveiled here Monday. And Union is a team that could make some noise in 4A.

Doors open at noon. Here’s the schedule:

1:30 p.m. Bellevue vs Christian Faith Life Christian vs Eastlake

2 p.m. Camas vs Christian Faith Mt. Si vs Bellevue

2:30 p.m. Union vs Christian Faith Life Christian vs Bellevue

3 p.m. Camas vs Mt. Si Eastlake vs Bellevue

3:30 p.m. Union vs Mt. Si Life Christian vs Camas

4 p.m. Christian Faith vs Mt. Si Eastlake vs Camas

4:30 p.m. Union vs Life Christian Bellevue vs Camas

5 p.m. Christian Faith vs Life Christian Eastlake vs Union

5:30 p.m. Mt. Si vs Life Christian Bellevue vs Union

6 p.m. Christian Faith vs Eastlake
