Class 4A and 3A state volleyball rankings — Week 4

What to do, what to do.

You tell me — what do you do when the No. 1 team in 3A beats the No. 1 team in 4A? And it goes five sets — 19-17 in the fifth, in fact.

Obviously, Mount Spokane and Mead are evenly matched. It was Mount Spokane’s first-ever victory over their district rivals – and one they were shooting for from the first day of practice.

It made leaving Mount Spokane atop the 3A rankings a no-brainer, but what to do with Mead?

I decided to drop the Panthers a couple of notches for this week. I was so impressed with Jackson at the Kent Classic Saturday, I nearly shot the Timberwolves up to No. 1. But I went back to Richland and put Jackson at No. 2.

Interesting that the top three 4A teams have all lost to very good 3A teams — Richland to West Valley, Jackson to Kennedy Catholic and now Mead to Mount Spokane.

Tournaments are always tough to wade through, especially pool play with just two sets.

I was very impressed with Issaquah — until they played Jackson, and even at times during that match. The Eagles actually move up from seventh to sixth and Skyview goes to No. 7. The Storm was clearly out of gas in that title match against Jackson.

The bottom line is that there are no new teams in either top-10, just some shifting. I didn’t quite know what to do with Monroe. At times, the Bearcats looked very good. At other times, not so good. But there wasn’t a clear choice to me who else to put at No. 10, so it’s Monroe.

And what to do with Graham-Kapowsin? The Eagles lost to Rogers last week, which has lost to Emerald Ridge. But they were without their top player, Kaitlyn Molloy, with an ankle sprain, and their starting libero. So I’m leaving G-K in at No. 8.

In 3A, the Kent Classic caused even more confusion. Mount Si split with Camas, then lost a three-setter to Seattle Prep. Both Mount Si and Prep were without a key player in that match. And Eastside Catholic, which beat Prep in a Metro League showdown last week, had an off tournament.

I believe all are still worthy of the top-10, so just check out the shuffling:
