While the girls soccer powers of Class 4A have held pretty steady this season, things have been a little more unsettling in 3A.
Glacier Peak is rock solid as the No. 1 ranked team in Class 3A, and Kennedy Catholic is a sturdy No. 2. But it’s sort of a crap shoot after that.
Five ranked 3A teams lost last week, shuffling the rankings.
It seemed a good time to elevate the Metro League’s Seattle Prep and Holy Names, two teams that still haven’t lost. Especially since last week’s highest-ranking 3A teams from Eastern Washington – Shadle Park, South Ridge and Mount Spokane – all lost last week.
Mount Spokane lost twice but both were to two very good teams in Mead (1-0 loss) and University (2-1 loss).
Shadle Park, which dropped from No. 2 to No. 5, lost to a strong Central Valley team, 2-1.
Teams picking up steam in 3A include Camas and Hanford.
Hanford boosted its record to 7-2-0 after shutting out Kamiakin and Eastmont last week.
In 4A, No. 1 ranked and two-time defending state champion Skyline still hasn’t allowed a goal in eight games.
An intriguing matchup will happen Thursday when the Spartans play host to a surging Bothell team (7-1-1).
Tahoma, ranked No. 3, also is having a monster season. The Bears are 8-0-0 with seven shutouts, finally giving up their first goal in a 2-1 victory over powerful Kentwood on Saturday.
Another team on a roll is Kamiak, which cracked the Top 10 after defeating Marysville-Pilchuck and Arlington last week to improve to 8-0-1.
