Joe Leota lands ‘dream job’ with Rainier Beach girls basketball

Joe Leota isn’t just happy about being hired as the new Rainier Beach girls basketball coach.

“I’m ecstatic,” he said. “It’s my dream job. I grew up in the community. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to get the program headed in the right direction.”

Leota, a 1989 Kennedy Catholic graduate, was head girls coach at Highline High School for two seasons, 2005-07, before stepping time to spend more time with his daughters, now ages 13 and 10. He also was head girls coach at Summit in 2004-05 and before that spent time as an assistant coach at Cleveland and Holy Names. Leota said he has been a volunteer coach in the AAU system the past three years.
