Kentwood quarterback Shane Green did not play in last week’s 42-14 victory over Auburn Riverside and his availability for the remainder of the season is in question.
Jo Anne Daughtry, Kentwood athletic director, verified Sunday evening that Green had been suspended for at least one game for violating the Kent School District’s athletic code. She said the school’s investigation will continue Monday and Tuesday to determine the length of the suspension.
The school district has varying degrees of punishment depending on the severity of the violation and the athlete’s level of cooperation.
The fifth-ranked Conquerors are unbeaten and have clinched the South Puget Sound League 4A North Division title. They close out the regular season Thursday against Kentridge.
Sophomore Dane Manio started last against Auburn Riverside and completed 5 of 11 passes for 197 yards and three touchdowns, all over 40 yards, with two interceptions.
Daughtry said administrators also will be investigating whether other players violated the athletic code.
Kentwood coach Rex Norris said the Conquerors are “moving forward,” regardless of any suspensions.
“The team is focused and motivated to finish what they have started,” he said.
