Skyline girls soccer coach Don Braman can sum up his team by looking back on the Spartans’ most recent performance on Senior Night.
In that 6-0 victory over Redmond last week, six different players scored to help Skyline finish the regular season unbeaten at 15-0-0. In the process, the Spartans maintained a Class 4A No. 1 state ranking they’ve held the entire season.
Skyline, the two-time defending Class 4A state champions, will bring that balance into the KingCo championship match Tuesday night against Eastlake.
The Spartans and Wolves will play at 7:30 p.m. to determine the KingCo’s No. 1 seed to the 4A state tournament.
At the same site at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Woodinville will play Issaquah for the KingCo’s No. 3 seed.
This week, girls soccer teams are battling to try to reach the state playoffs and in some cases, capture league championships.
Braman said his team landed seven of the 14 first-team selections on the All-KingCo team. Considering he couldn’t vote for his own team, he was flattered.
“We have a talented team,” Braman said. “We have a challenging league. It’s a matter of making sure we’re ready to be at our best every night. Certainly every game we play, teams are looking to knock us off.”
No. 9 Eastlake has come on late in this season. The Wolves are led by KingCo most valuable player Jaclyn Softli, who led the league in scoring.
Skyline’s defensive is one of its strengths. Goalkeeper Tina Vargas has 13 shutouts, including one during the Spartans’ 3-0 victory over Eastlake on Oct. 14.
