The Kentwood Conquerors are hitting their stride at just the right time.
The Conquerors, slowed up earlier this season by injuries, have won eight in a row heading into Tuesday’s Class 4A state first round playoffs.
They’re one of the state’s hottest teams heading into the state playoffs and moved up to the No. 4 spot in the final 4A state rankings.
Kentwood finished third a year ago at state.
Skyline has held the No. 1 ranking all season and is 16-0-0 as it looks to go after its third straight state championship.
The Spartans were ranked No. 3 nationally last week in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Rankings.
The top four of Skyline, Bellarmine Prep, Tahoma and Kentwood appear to be at a different level than the rest of the 4A competition.
Mount Rainier made it to the 4A state tournament in its first season since moving up from 3A.
In 3A, top-ranked Glacier Peak suffered its first loss last week to Shorewood, 1-0, but bounced back to beat Everett, 2-0, in an elimination game then redeemed itself by knocking off Shorewood, 3-0, to get to the state playoffs.
As impressive as Kennedy Catholic, Camas and Bonney Lake are playing, I’m still sticking with Glacier Peak at No. 1.
After flying under the radar, Liberty snuck into the 3A rankings this week at No. 8.
