Class 4A and 3A girls high-school hoops rankings — Week 2

You won’t find any changes in the top-five of either the 4A or 3A girls basketball rankings this week. The only one of the bunch to lose was Shadle Park, but the Highlanders remain at No. 2 in 3A because that loss was just by four points to a very good 4A team, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

There’s some shuffling after that in both polls and each features a newcomer.

In 4A, Woodinville drops out after losing twice last week — even though those loses were to ranked teams (Issaquah and Holy Names). I expect the Falcons to be back in the top-10 soon, but for now I thought Lake Stevens deserved some props for its 4-0 start. So the Vikings are in at No. 10. We’ll see how they fare in two potentially tough games this week against Monroe tonight (Monday) and Arlington Wednesday.

Edmonds-Woodway appears back on track after a 2-2 start (with those two losses coming against good teams — including No. 6 Auburn Riverside). E-W moves up to No. 7 and Garfield climbes to No. 8. Moses Lake remains at No. 9 despite an overtime loss to Hermiston, Oregon.

Here’s a game you should go see — Garfield at Woodinville on Wednesday.

In 3A, Lakes falls from sixth to eighth after that 24-point loss to No. 3 Prairie. The Falcons are really good. Their other two wins last week were by 34 and 50 points, over 4A teams in the Greater St. Helen’s League.

Seattle Prep falls out of the top-10 after losing to Lakeside, 47-39, and the Lions move in at No. 9. Their lone loss has been to Jackson, a team on the brink of getting back into the 4A rankings. Lakeside faces top-ranked Holy Names on Wednesday and the Cougars have been on a tear.

Lynnwood scoots up to No. 6 and Timberline takes the No. 7 spot, with an interesting game tonight against 3-1 Auburn Mountainview.
