Girls hoops take spotlight Saturday at Pierce College

If you’re looking for some quality girls basketball games to watch this Saturday, you should head down to Pierce College in Lakewood for a four-game event dubbed the Northwest All-Stars Shootout.

Here’s the schedule:

1 p.m. — Tahoma vs. Seattle Christian

3 p.m. — Chelan vs. Emerald Ridge

5 p.m. — Kennedy Catholic vs. White River

7 p.m. — Oregon City vs. Edmonds-Woodway

Admission for the day is $7 for adults and only $2 for students/kids and senior citizens.

I’m particularly interested in the final two games. We’ve got Kennedy ranked No. 4 in Class 3A and the Lancers have had some great contests with White River over the years. The Hornets should contend for the 2A title this season, so it should be a battle.

Edmonds-Woodway is ranked No. 7 in 4A and will take on a team from the storied Oregon City program.

And the first two games are of interest as well. Seattle Christian is among the top 1A teams in the state and I got good news about Oregon-bound guard Lexi Peterson this week. She suffered a knee injury Saturday, but coach Bob Kickner says it doesn’t appear to be too serious (a.k.a. ACL), but he won’t know more until after her MRI later this week.

I expect Emerald Ridge to be one of the contenders in the SPSL 4A South. The Jaguars played top-ranked Federal Way tough, so they’re definitely worth a look.
