Class 4A and 3A boys high-school hoops rankings — Week 3

RB_ODea_030120.JPG Photo by Jim Bates / The Seattle Times — The result of this shot by Rainier Beach’s Marques Davis helped keep the Vikings at No. 1.

It was a wild week in Class 4A.

Top-ranked Garfield lost to O’Dea. No. 2 Curtis fell to Puyallup. No. 3 Kentwood fell to No. 4 Kentridge and the Chargers lost to Kentlake.

After that there was some minor shuffling in the top five. Curtis drops to No. 4, while Kentridge is now No. 2. Davis (Yakima) is 5-0, so the Pirates jump to No. 6 this week and will continue to climb if they keep winning.

In 3A, it is almost impossible to pick a team for the top spot. Rainier Beach edged O’Dea in overtime by two, but then the Irish came back and upset Garfield, 78-76.

Both teams are very good, but the Vikings maintain the top spot for now. With Franklin off to a 4-0 start – Anrio Adams scored 30 and 43 points in his first two games after missing the the Quakers’ first two – the Metro League maintains the top three spots in the rankings.

After beating Mercer Island, 62-46, Bellevue jumps up to No. 6. Sammamish has been playing very well recently and cracks the rankings at No. 9. When the Totems are knocking down outside shots and forcing teams into the chaotic pace they favor it is tough to beat them.

It continues to be tough to figure out which teams belong in the final spots at the bottom of the top 10. Lake Washington, Decatur and Glacier Peak are all good teams that will be around late in the season.

But, for now, Lake Washington falls out of the rankings, Decatur stays in and Glacier Peak remains on the bubble.

There won’t be new rankings next Monday. We’ll take a week off for the holidays, but they will return Jan. 3.
