Issaquah’s Maddey Pflaumer expected to play against Garfield

I checked in with Issquah girls basketball coach Kathy Gibson after noticing that Maddey Pflaumer had not played in the Eagles’ final game of the Nike Tournament of Champions over the holidays.

Gibson said Pflaumer had suffered a groin injury in the second quarter of the previous tournament game, leaving with a season-low two points. But the coach said Pflaumer is expected to play tonight (Wednesday) as the fourth-ranked Eagles take on Garfield in a KingCo 4A contest at 7:30 p.m. at Issaquah.

We have had the date and site of that game listed incorrectly on our website. It is indeed tonight at Issaquah.

The 5-foot-11 Pflaumer, who has signed with Seattle Pacific University, was averaging 14.2 points and 6.4 rebounds before the injury. She is Issaquah’s leading scorer.

It’s a big week for Issaquah, which is 2-0 in league play and 4-3 overall with all three losses coming in that Nike tourney, none by more than eight points. The Eagles face a pretty tough Skyline team (8-3, 2-2) on Friday, then the next day square off with 10th-ranked Eastlake (4-0, 9-0).

Garfield (2-2, 4-3), which placed third at last year’s state tournament by beating Issaquah on the final day, has yet to hit its stride, but appears to be progressing. Nyasha Sarju leads the Bulldogs in scoring at 21.1 points per game.
