Here is a press release for one of several high-school hoops events scheduled for Martin Luther King Day:
KENT – Some of the Pacific Northwest’s top high school girls and boys basketball teams will take part in the inaugural Comcast Showcase, a day-long celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. A total of seven games will take place the ShoWare Center in Kent.
The event begins with a battle of ranked girls teams as Kentwood goes against Lakes at 10 a.m. the event wraps up at 7:30 p.m. with a game between No. 7 Class 4A Auburn against Class 3A Enumclaw. And inbetween, there will be more games and a special tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. at 4 p.m.
A pair of Portland teams will make the trip north as the Grant High School boys take on Auburn Riverside and the Oregon City girls will travel to take on the highly ranked Auburn Riverside girls. Another interesting game features defending Class 4A champion Kentwood against defending Class 3A champion Union, which now plays at the Class 4A level. Both are ranked in the top 10 this season.
Tickets are $10 at the door for adults and $5 for seniors and students with ASB.
