Some girls basketball highlights from Monday night

It was do or die for teams in the first round of the Metro League girls basketball tournament Monday night.

Franklin got things done in a big way against Rainier Beach, while Bishop Blanchet edged Eastside Catholic. They now move to the double-elimination portion of the tourney.

Check out the details below, along with highlights from some of the other Monday girls action:

Franklin 94, Rainier Beach 63

The Quakers raced to a 32-12 first-quarter lead and wound up with five players in double figures — Janee Lewis (18), Eujunay Jones-Lee (16), Jazmin Horne (14), Patrice Toston (13) and Qiara Norwood (12). Beach got a game-high 22 points from Morae Hampton, while Myquierra Smalls added 13 and Essance Henderson 10.

Bishop Blanchet 48, Eastside Catholic 45

The Braves took a 41-24 lead into the final period, then held on as the Cruisaders made a late rush. Blake Ballantyne led Blanchet with 14 and got help from seven others. Michaela O’Rourke (18) and Lauren Johnson (10) were two of only four Eastside players to score.

Bush 49, University Prep 31

Emma Gorder (17) and Elise Wilcox (13) keyed the victory in the Emerald City League tournament. For Bush, Adrina Wetzel had 11 and Tejal Angolkar 10.

Northwest School 56, Seattle Academy 29

Maria Webb tossed in 18 points and Ellen Shrontz added 13 for the winners.

Chimacum 62, Orting 47

Chimacum’s Mallon Cosell nearly outscored the Cardinals all by her self with an impressive 41-point outburst in the Nisqually 1A contest. Orting’s Angela Jones hit for 16 and Mykaelynn Powers 14.

Charles Wright 56, Northwest Christian (Lacey) 52 (2 OTs)

Cami Bates poured in 29 for Northwest Christian and Courtney Wanger added 11, but it wasn’t enough in this thriller. The Tarriers were led by Sydney Hughes (17) and Rebecca Byrne (12).

Friday Harbor 51, Cedar Park Christian (Mountlake Terrace) 17

Maggie Anderson notched 16 points and Kelsey Barnes 10 as Friday Harbor took the Northwest 1A/2B game.

Seattle Lutheran 40, Rainier Christian 32

Julian Smith set the pace for the Sea-Tac 2B victory with 13 points, while Emily Woods countered with 11 for Rainier Christian.
