Tipoff times set for state basketball championships

I’ve been anxious to see the schedule for the championship games of the high-school state basketball tournaments for boys and girls.

They are now up on the WIAA website, and I can direct you. Go to the basketball page, then in the click on the classifcation you are interested in under “State Championship Info” toward the upper left corner. You will then find links for the brackets and schedules.

FYI — time of the first-round games at the area sites will not be chosen until all qualifiers are decided, in part due to an effort to accommodate schools with both boys and girls entries.

But you can see the times for all of the Hardwood Classic games, the final eight in each classification.

So here’s the skinny at the Tacoma Dome, where the 4A and 3A boys and girls will play. The championshp games are all on the same court on Saturday, March 5, startng with the 3A girls at 3 p.m. The 4A girls follow at 5 p.m., then the 3A boys and 7 p.m. and 4A boys at 9:30 p.m. (those of us with deadlines are wincing at that).

Fox Sports Network will televise the 4A girls and 4A boys championship games live, according to Cindy Adsit, WIAA assistant executive director. She said FSN will also produce the 3A boys and girls title games to be broadcast on another network, but as of yet the specifics have not been announced.

In 2012, the 3A and 4A boys will take the two early spots (3 p.m. and 5 p.m.), followed by the 3A and 4A girls (7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.).
