Auburn Moutainview girls eliminate Mercer Island, get North Central in Tacoma Dome

SPSL 3A champion Auburn Mountainview (22-7) earned its spot amongst the Tacoma Dome quarterfinalists with a convincing victory over Mercer Island (17-13) on Saturday at Marysville-Pilchuck.

Auburn Mountainview will play North Central of Spokane on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Tacoma Dome. Mercer Island’s season is done.

The Lions consistently broke the Mercer Island press defense in the first half and raced out to a 23-17 lead after one quarter. Auburn Mountainview extended that advantage to nine, 37-28, by the half.

Led by Jae Shin, who scored nine of her team-high 15 points in the third quarter, the Islanders raced back into it and trailed just 49-45 entering the fourth quarter. But the Lions scored the first five points of the final quarter and never looked back.

Auburn Mountainview had both Aalia Braboy (23 points, 6 rebounds) and Caitlin Carr (21 points, 10 rebounds) score more than 20 points. Hattie Kosko added 10 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots.
