The Glacier Peak boys soccer team knows this week will be the big test. The defending Class 3A state champions will surely get their measure.

The Grizzlies (7-0-0) remain atop the Class 3A boys state soccer rankings to start Week 3. Where they’ll finish the week, nobody knows.

Glacier Peak hosts two top-10 foes in WesCo 3A action, starting tonight with No. 2 Shorecrest and continuing with No. 8 Shorewood on Wednesday. Both showdowns are 7:30 p.m. starts.

The Grizzlies finish out the week with a rigorous four-match schedule, hosting Lynnwood on Thursday and traveling to Oak Harbor on Saturday. They won their lone game last week on Wednesday, beating Everett 4-0.

Shorecrest (7-0-0) survived a perfect 2-0 week with a 5-0 triumph over Everett on Monday and 2-1 shootout thriller against Shorewood.

Sammamish improved to 5-0-1 in KingCo 3A/2A play and moved into No. 6, trading places with Shorewood after the Thunderbirds fell to rival Shorecrest.

Bellarmine Prep remains at No. 1 in 4A with an unbeaten 2-0 week.

Another Tacoma school moved from No. 5 last week to No. 4 this week after the previous No. 4 Marysville-Pilchuck fell to a climbing undefeated Jackson (6-0-0) squad. The Timberwolves, on the strength of a 2-0 win over M-P on Wednesday, rose from No. 8 to No. 5 while the Tomahawks slipped to two spots to No. 6.

Another team on the move is Skyline, which jumped from No. 10 to No. 7 with a big 4-2 on Tuesday win over then No. 6 Garfield. The Bulldogs slid to No. 8 heading into Week 3.

The initial National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national rankings came out last week and four Washington state teams were in the top 20. Here’s a link to the poll.

Shorecrest debuted in the NSCAA national poll at No. 4, followed up by Washington schools Bellarmine Prep (No. 8), Beamer (No. 14) and Stadium (No. 19). Marysville-Pilchuck was among schools also receiving votes.
