Erika Johnson still committed to Cal, at least for now

Will the coaching change at Cal mean a change in plans for Erika Johnson?

Apparently not as of right now.

When I heard that coach Joanne Boyle is leaving Cal to take over the women’s basketball program at Virginia, I called Johnson and her father, Tony, in an effort to find out if she is reconsidering her commitment. But I haven’t heard back from either of them.

Tony Johnson seemed to indicate the door might be open again when he told the San Jose Mercury News, “Her status has not changed. But it’s still pretty early in the process.”

Erika, a 6-foot-1 guard/wing, led Holy Names to the Class 3A state championship last month and swept several state Player of the Year awards.

We will continue to follow any developments.
