Class 4A and 3A boys high-school soccer rankings — Week 4

Special to The Seattle Times

Soccer was still alive and kicking in Week 3, despite many

schools enjoying spring break.

But with fewer games and expected results, there was limited activity

and little movement in the high-school boys soccer rankings heading

into Week 4.

Bellarmine Prep retained its top spot in the Class 4A rankings and

improved to 7-0-0 with 1-0 nonleague home victory over Douglas of

Juneau, Alaska on Wednesday. That was the Lions lone match of the

In Class 3A, Glacier Peak stayed on top of the rankings with a

perfect 9-0-0 record, but it wasn’t easy in a couple of home wins.

First, the Grizzlies beat No. 2 Shorecrest 3-1 on Monday and then

fended off then No. 8 Shorewood 3-2 in shootout on Wednesday.

Even in defeat, the Thunderbirds climbed one spot in the 3A ranks to

No. 7 for Week 4.

Jackson, No. 5 in Class 4A, remained unbeaten at 8-0 with a pair of

home wins last week – a 1-0 decision over Snohomish on Monday and a

5-1 triumph on Wednesday.

Marysville-Pilchuck, No. 6 in 4A, bounced back with a two victories

last week after suffering its first loss of the season, a 2-0 decision

to Jackson on March 30.

It was a productive week for No. 8 Garfield in KingCo 4A action as

the Bulldogs scored a 1-0 road win over Woodinville on Tuesday and a

played to a 1-1 draw against Eastlake on Friday at home.

Emerald Ridge cracked the 4A top 10 at No. 10 in Week 4 after winning

a couple of matches by a combined 11-2 margin in SPSL South Division

play. The Jaguars shut out previous No. 10 Puyallup 1-0 behind the

goalkeeping of Shane Haworth, a Seattle University commit, and a

22nd-minute goal from Justin Burgher.

Haworth has six shutouts this season.

One team not in the top 10 in 4A that’s been on my radar all season

is Gonzaga Prep (9-0-0), but they’ve yet to fact the top two teams in

the Greater Spokane League (GSL). However, the Bullpups will get their

big tests soon – April 20 vs. No. 3 Mead and April 27 vs. No. 2 Ferris

– both at home.

In 3A action, Sammamish downed Mercer Island 2-1 on Tuesday to stay

atop KingCo 3A/2A and move from No. 6 to No. 5 after previous No. 5

Bainbridge dipped to No. 8 after a 2-0 loss to Lakeside.

Lakeside, on the strength of that win debuted at No. 10 in the 3A rankings.
