Class 4A and 3A high-school baseball rankings — Week 4

Mason Kelley asked me to handle this week’s baseball rankings as he is out of town.

Little did he know what was in store for the top-10, especially in 4A! And what I mean is that seven of the 10 lost at least once last week.

However, I didn’t want to do too much tinkering with his rankings. He’s the one who has done all of the previous legwork, and he and I have some different approaches to how we react to certain losses.

So, there honestly aren’t a lot of changes. Top-ranked Richland actually didn’t play last week (spring break), so that part was easy, and No. 2 Redmond won twice. Jackson beat No. 7 Edmonds-Woodway twice, but lost to Meadowdale (which is just 3-8). So I dropped the Timberwolves one spot and moved Kentwood (which won its only game last week) up to No. 3.

Emerald Ridge lost to Puyallup, which lost to Rogers (all district rivalry games). That ER-Puyallup game was just 1-0, so ER stays at No. 5. Newport, which lost to Woodinville, slips down to No. 6. E-W stays at No. 7, followed by Puyallup, Kentridge (which won its only game) and Tahoma (lost 2-1 to Auburn Riverside in eight innings).

In 3A, top-ranked Enumclaw sufferred its first loss of the season, 2-1 to Auburn Mountainview. So 10-0 Camas jumps up to No. 1 and Shorewood takes the No. 2 spot, with Enumclaw dropping to No. 3.

In action between two ranked teams, Mount Si (No. 9 last week) clubbed Mercer Island (No. 8), 11-1. So the Wildcats go to No. 8 and MI hangs in at No. 10.
Mason will be back to handle next week’s update, so we’ll see how he wants to handle things. For now, here’s what we’re going with:
