Otto Olson from Everett, Drew Miller from Lakes, Doug Porter from Lakeside and Ron Cox from Coulee City headline the 2011 WIAA Hall of Fame class, which will be inducted Wednesday, May 11, at the Sprit of Washington Events Center in Renton.
The four decorated athletes are joined by four coaches — Gene Smith, Dave Johnson, Kim Cox and Denny Humphrey — along with Virginia Hays (official), Clarence Acox (fine arts) and Scooter Chapman (contributor). The ceremony will also include Randy Ryan, recently awarded the Gareth Giles Memorial Recognition Award for his service to the WIAA Representative Assembly and District 8.
Olson, who graduated in 1996, was one of the state’s most successful wrestlers and went on to excel at Michigan. Miller, also a ’96 grad, broke a bevy of records while quarterbacking the Lancers. He continued to impress at Brigham Young University.
Porter earned 12 varsity letters at Lakeside, where he graduated in 1980. He became an eight-time All-America in track and field at Occidental College. Cox, a 1973 graduate was also a multi-sport athlete and ultimately played in the NBA.
