There’s not a lot of movement in this week’s state softball rankings, although there is one newcomer.
That would be Wilson of Tacoma checking in at No. 10 in the Class 3A poll. The Rams are 8-0 with numerous rainouts and have not really been tested, but they’ve been on my radar all season and they get the nod (once-beaten Kennedy Catholic is also knocking on the door).
Meadowdale, No. 10 last week, drops out after losing to Glacier Peak. That’s the third loss in two weeks for the Mavericks.
There is a little movement elsewhere in 3A, although Holy Names remains at No. 3 despite losing to Rogers of Puyallup, which is a solid 4A team. Bonney Lake falls to No. 9 after suffering its first loss of the season, 4-3 to Auburn Mountainview.
And you’ll see that Sedro-Woolley’s record now reflects an 11-11 tie with Mountlake Terrace that I had been unaware of (played way back in March).
In Class 4A, Wenatchee tumbles from No. 6 to No. 9 after being swept decisivly by No. 4 Richland (11-3 and 18-3). The Panthers face No. 2 Walla Walla this week.
Previously unbeaten Spanaway Lake slips to No. 10 after 1-0 to Puyallup in what was a great pitching duel. The Vikings scored in the bottom of the first and Kelsey Robinson made it stand up. She tossed a two-hitter, striking out 14 without a walk. Cara Custer took the loss despite allowing just one hit. She struck out nine and walked two.
Weather permitting, No. 1 Woodinville could get a test today (Monday) from No. 8 Eastlake. I’m also looking forward to the two games scheduled this week between No. 3 Kentlake and No. 5 Tahoma (Wednesday and Thursday).
The playoffs for most leagues start next week, so things should really heat up. Let’s hope the weather does, too!
