Some high-school softball highlights from Wednesday

Quite honestly, I was surprised to see that any softball games were played Wednesday, considering the rain. But there were a few reported, and here are some highlights:

Holy Names 6, Seattle Prep 5

Samantha Carlson had two hits, including the game-winner in the fifth inning, as the Cougars (ranked No. 1 in 3A) advanced to the semifinals of the Metro League tournament. Coach Jerry Milsap said he used his reserves in an effort to keep the game close after his team beat Prep 31-3 a week earlier.

Woodinville 12, Roosevelt 0

Keelin Davis threw a one-hitter and struck out nin in five innings. The Falcons (ranked No. 1 in 4A) backed her with 12 hits, led by Makenna Weir (3-for-3, HR, 2B, 4 RBI), Shelby Yasuda (3-for-3, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and Alison Wulfman (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 run).

Mountlake Terrace 12, Jackson 7

Both teams had several players with two hits. For Terrace, they were Melynda Ward (2-for-3), Mindy James (2-for-4) and Chelsea Crews (2-4). For Jackson: Lindsay Robison (2-for-4, HR, 4 RBI), Matti Tetzlaff (2-for-4, HR), Dewey Davis (2-for-4, 2B, 3B) and Megan Cooley (2-for-4).

Everett 20, Oak Harbor 4

C.J. Shaver went 4-for-4 with three home runs and eight RBI to lead the sixth-ranked Seagulls. Lauren Kesterson was 3-for-3 and Kiki Harper added two hits. Bailey Martinez had two of Oak Harbor’s three hits, both doubles.
