The state baseball playoffs begin this week and 17 of the 20 teams that made up last week’s Class 4A and 3A rankings are still alive.
Since the state playoffs start with the regional round this weekend, this week’s rankings will be the last of the season.
In Class 4A, the top-two spots remain the same with Jackson and Tahoma remaining on top. I was really impressed with the Timberwolves when I watched them rally past Edmonds-Woodway Friday at Everett Memorial to claim the Northwest 4A District 1 title. Puyallup is the new No. 3 and, after winning the KingCo 4A crown, Bothell jumps to No. 4.
Walla Walla has had Richland’s number this season – the Blue Devils knocked off the Bombers in the CBBN/GSL 4A sub-regional championship game Saturday — and moves up to No. 5.
Ferris falls to No. 6, followed by Newport, Richland and Olympia. Edmonds-Woodway, which has lost to top-ranked Jackson five times this season, climbs back into the rankings at No. 10.
In Class 3A, Camas and Shorewood maintain the top-two spots. Enumclaw swaps places with Southridge after the Suns were upset by Hanford for the sub-regional title.
After winning five of its last seven games in extra innings, Seattle Prep enters the rankings for the first time this year, checking in at No. 9. Hanford rounds out the rankings at No. 10, making a statement with a win over Southridge.
