Some high-school softball highlights from Wednesday

There are lots of softball tournaments going on, and today (Thursday), I’ll be heading over to Lower Woodland Park. to cover the semifinals and championship game of the Sea-King 3A District tourney.

Some scores and highlights from that event as well as others are not getting reported to The Times, so here’s a plea to coaches to please make sure to call (206-464-2276) or e-mail them in ( Unfortunately, I don’t have the extra time this morning to search elsewhere for highlights.

I’ve managed to track down updated brackets for the Sea-King and KingCo 4A tourneys. And District 1 does a fantastic job of updating their brackets on the district website (go here for the 3A bracket and here for the 4A bracket). District 1 4A play resumes today.

The semifinals in the Sea-King tournament pit No. 1 Holy Names against Mount Si and No. 2 Juanita against No. 7 Bainbridge, both at 2 p.m. The winners play at 4 p.m. All are assured of state berths. The fifth and final berth is up for grabs between Bishop Blanchet, Chief Sealth, West Seattle and Bellevue.

In the KingCo 4A tourney, No. 5 Eastlake plays Ballard in a winner-to-state game at 5 p.m. at Hartman field. The winner plays No. 1 Woodinville in the 7 p.m. championship game. Woodinville has already clinched a state berth. The Eastlake-Ballard loser will still have a shot to qualify for state, as do Bothell, Redmond and Newport, which are alive in consolation play. The No. 3 KingCo finisher will play the No. 4 team out of District 1 (WesCo 4A) for the final state berth. No. 3 Marysville-Pilchuck and Jackson have wrapped up the top two WesCo spots.

In the District 1 3A tourney, Shorewood took down No. 3 Sedro-Woolley, the defending state champion. No. 5 Everett and Mountlake Terrace clinched state berths and meet in the championship game Friday. Sedro-Wooley, Glacier Peak, Shorwood and Mount Vernon battle for the third and final berth Friday.
