The 101 Club’s 78th Scholar Athletes Awards Luncheon

The 101 Club awarded eight Seattle high-school student-athletes with college scholarships at the 78th Scholar Athletes Awards Luncheon on Thursday at the Washington Athletic Club.

Two student-athletes each from Rainier Beach and Franklin, as well as one each from Ballard, Garfield, Roosevelt and West Seattle earned $1,000 scholarships. Rainier Beach’s Ndayishimi Priame and Rica Landon were honored, as well as Franklin’s Jamika De Fillipis and Jennifer Wong. The other winners were Brent Campbell of Ballard, Heejoon Choi of Garfield, Tre Smith of West Seattle and Thuc Nhi Nguyen of Roosevelt.

Every high school the Metro League plus the high schools from Seattle that are in KingCo 4A were represented at the luncheon. Student athletes from each high school were nominated for the scholarships and received plaques.

Yogi Hutsen, 101 Club president, welcomed the guests and awarded plaques with Chip Holland. Eric McCurdy, coordinator of athletics for Seattle Public Schools, introduced each school. Jim Johnson, president and CEO of the WAC, also spoke. Beth Wojick, CEO of Washington Special Olympics, was the featured speaker.

Ballard – Molly Barnes, Bernie Cardon, Taylor Stern, Brent Campbell, Salim Gloyd, Danny Thomson.

Bishop Blanchet – Beth Lidgard, Stephanie Rex, Ali Duenas, Peter Haskins, Ryan Deem, Joe Throckmorton.

Cleveland – Jullie Le, Kimberly Nguyen, My Hoa Nguyen, Dakota Eckman, Mathew Whitford, Clinton Parilla.

Eastside Catholic – Kellie Standish, Alex Johnston, Emily Franceschina, Ethan Hallowell, Rob Granfelt, Jake Gober.

Franklin – Stephenie McCray, Jennifer Wong, Jamika De Filippis, Sam Timpe, Kyle Thompson, Roger Garrett.

Garfield – Fiona Majeau, Annie Schlossman, Renee Dillard-Brown, Josh Canova, Heejoon Choi, Chris Wozniak.

Nathan Hale – Maddie Burton, Kaeley Scruggs, Naivasha Sophusson-Smith, Michael Mooney, Spenser Petherick, Ethan Davis.

Holy Names – Mackenzie Crist, Riley Hughes, Nora West.

Ingraham – Nikki Tarte, Ana Greeley, Jasmine Isaacson, Jon Erik Bottheim, Michael Winston, Abdallahi Abdi.

Lakeside – Whitney Best, Donna Leet, Madeline Rathbun, Jason Crossley, Kyle McAndrews, Guy Thyer.

O’Dea – Alex Duffy, Joey Launceford, Edward Moran.

Rainier Beach – Taylor Anderson, Charissa Shoecraft, Riza Landon, Darrien Muongvang, Bruce Shields, Michael Lu.

Roosevelt – Thuc Nhi Nguyen, Caherine Killian, Jessica Ayers, Brian Hutchison, Cameron Johnson, Drew Nichols.

Chief Sealth – Sara Schendel, Molly Freed, Vivi Nguyen, Devante Meullion, Daniel Perrine, Mateo Strothers.

Seattle Prep – Carly Clawson, Kate Magee, Emma Stacey, Peter Christiansen, Michael Rheaume, Travis Smith.

West Seattle – Al’Asia Davis, Hannah Matalone, Taylor Magera, Kellen Gearon, Tre Smith, Nick Barnecut.
