Andy Streit has been hired to coach boys basketball at Meadowdale High School. The news was announced through a press release Tuesday:
Meadowdale High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Andy Streit as the new coach for the boys basketball team.
Coach Streit brings strong experience and passion for Meadowdale athletics. He was formerly the Meadowdale JV coach from 2000-03. He then coached boys basketball at Auburn Riverside, only to return to Meadowdale in 2006 where coached the boys JV program.
“We are very excited to have coach Streit step into the varsity role,” said Chris Murphy, the Meadowdale athletic coordinator. “He will bring energy and a passion for our school, and our student-athletes see it. Many of us were sad to lose Chad McGuire as head coach to the boys program, but Andy will take over a great program and continue to move it forward.”
McGuire, a coach at Meadowdale since 1996 and head coach of the program since 2002, stepped down this spring to spend more time with his family. He took the boys program to state five times during his tenure, with a fifth-place finish in 2010.
“Coach Streit has watched McGuire for many years but he is his own person,” Murphy said. “I believe he will continue a Meadowdale tradition for hard-nosed defense and preparation, but I also see him taking the program in his own direction.”
