Hazen High School has hired Ryan Thompson to coach boys basketball. Here is the press release:
Hazen High School is pleased to introduce Ryan Thompson as its new head boys basketball coach pending board approval.
Coach Thompson has been the top assistant at Jamestown College for the past two seasons. His duties at Jamestown included individual player development, recruiting, scouting and academic counseling. He has also been the head men’s and women’s golf coach at Jamestown.
As a player, Thompson was a four-year collegiate starter. He played three years at the NCAA Division III level at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and one year at the NAIA level at Jamestown College. His senior year he helped lead the Jamestown Jimmies to a league title and a national ranking as high as No. 8 during the season. He finished that season ranked 8th in the nation in three-point field-goal percentage and 13th in assists.
Coach Thompson is an excellent fit for Hazen. His desire for his team to exhibit excellence both on and off the court is exactly what we are looking for in a head coach in all of our sports. He understands and embraces that his role is to be a teacher of both the game itself but more importantly be a teacher of each young man in the program. His goal for each player to reach his potential on the court, in the classroom, and in life in general connects well with Hazen’s motto of Pride, Unity, and Achievement.
