Auburn Riverside hires Jon Aarstad to coach baseball

This press release came in Thursday, announcing that Jon Aarstad will take over as the baseball coach at Auburn Riverside. He coached Kentwood to a state title in 2010.

Here is the press release:

AUBURN, Wash. (July 14, 2011) – The Auburn Riverside High School Athletic program is pleased to announce the selection of Jon Aarstad as baseball coach. The Ravens replace one 2011 SPSL Co-Coach of the Year, Chris Garrison — who resigned in June after 16 seasons leading the Ravens — with the other 2011 SPSL Co-Coach of the Year in Aarstad.

Aarstad was awarded the 2010 Washington State Coach of the Year when his Kentwood Conquerors won the state championship. Aarstad has an extensive baseball background and will be a great fit to lead a program that has been on the rise of late.

“Working with the Kentwood students and staff has been a great experience for me,” Aarstad said. “Besides being an outstanding opportunity, Auburn Riverside gives me the opportunity teach and coach close to where I live. I look forward to being part of the Raven baseball program and a member of the staff at Auburn Riverside High School.”

Aarstad takes over a program that made a terrific run this past spring, qualifying for the state tournament and finishing in the top eight.

“Coach Aarstad brings a terrific combination of enthusiasm, energy and experience to the Raven Baseball program at ARHS,” athletic director Doug Aubert said. “We are very excited to have him as our new coach.”
