Bellevue cracks USA TODAY’s Super 25 rankings

USA TODAY’s Super 25 high-school football rankings were released Thursday and Bellevue made the cut.

The Wolverines will start the season ranked No. 23. Bellevue’s Week 1 opponent, Oaks Christian (Calif.) — the two teams meet in the Mission Viejo High School Football Classic Sept. 3 — is ranked No. 15.

There are some other familiar programs on the list. Mission Viejo (Calif.) , which beat Bothell in last year’s Emerald City Kickoff Classic, is No. 11, while Katy (Texas) is No. 18. Bellevue played the Tigers in Texas two years ago.

Don Bosco Prep (New Jersey) is ranked No. 1 in the nation, while St. Thomas Aquinas — a team I covered a few times in Florida — starts the year at No. 2.
